Know-How

I painted you the pictures

But you don’t know how to look

I wrote the prose but you

Can’t see that I’m an open book

I feel starved of love, I’m hungry

But you don’t know how to cook

You leave me always hanging

As you can’t find the hook

No one ever showed you

How to love somebody else

You’ve only ever needed

To think about yourself

You just don’t know how

To give what I need now

You just don’t know how

You just don’t know how.

I sang a song into your ear

But no music made a sound

I swam too far but you didn’t see

The moment when I drowned

When I fell head first you didn’t know

That I had hit the ground

You didn’t notice I was lost

Nor that I needed to be found

No one ever showed you

How to love somebody else

You’ve only ever needed

To think about yourself

You just don’t know how

To give what I need now

You just don’t know how

You just don’t know how.

You just don’t know how

I can’t blame you for this

I just don’t know how

To reconcile it

I wish I knew how

To teach you the key

I wish you knew how

To operate me.
